Math Circles of Chicago’s (MC2) free programs let diverse children across Chicago experience the joy and challenge of doing real math. Kids learn and are transformed. It’s awesome!
I hardly enjoyed math while growing up and I know I was hardly in the minority. Now math pays my bills. Over time I realised how Math is not about fast computation and regurgitating formulae. I have been teaching kids at MC2 for the last 3 years and have seen this change first hand.
Experiencing the beauty, sense, and power of math is amazing and I believe all kids should have such opportunities. That’s what MC2 aims to do for kids across Chicago.
Your support helps MC2 serve nearly 1,000 students every year— making us the largest free math circle in the world! However, over half of our students attend schools in underserved communities, and there are so many more Chicago kids who could benefit from this experience.
In 2018 we set an ambitious goal to double the number of students we serve — again. And we’re well on our way! Will you help us get there? Please give, and share our story — thanks so much for your support!
In 2018, Math Circles of Chicago raised $21,555. With 200 more students this year, their work in four homeless shelters, and piloted partnerships with other after school programs to expand their impact further, the goal for Giving Tuesday 2019 is $33,013.
For the 2019-20 school year, Math Circles of Chicago will serve 750 children in our academic year sessions, 225 children in our summer camps, and 150 students who will participate in the QED Math Symposium. With an operating budget of $311,778 this equates to $277.14 per quarter per child.
Your contribution will support 750 fifth through twelfth graders at eight sites across Chicago engaging in exploratory math curriculum that is cooperative, fun, and accessible to all.
Thank you for being a part of this global day of philanthropy and supporting our efforts!
Today is the day. Each year Giving Tuesday is Math Circles of Chicago's largest single fundraising event. Please join me in supporting this amazing non-profit and help me reach my fundraising goal.
