During this pandemic, we're hearing a lot about the perils of remote learning: how students are disengaged from school and falling behind. But for hundreds of children in Math Circles of Chicago's online sessions, "remote learning" is really remote inquiry, collaborative investigation, and discovery.
Sessions are led and breakout rooms facilitated by a host of instructors and volunteers, and students who ordinarily wouldn't be able to travel to math circles can experience the excitement and fun of doing mathematics without leaving their houses. We're even expanding our outreach into Chicago Public Schools by recruiting teachers and students for our new "Math Circles in a Box" afterschool programs.
