Dear Friends,

 

Cursoriam Creations was born out of a decades long love for making jewelry with the occasional other craft thrown into the mix. I have been making jewelry since I was in elementary school and the joy and peace I find when I spend time on my craft hobbies remains. Every month the proceeds from Cursoriam Creations are donated to a partner nonprofit.

 

I am a Walter Payton alumna (class of 2008) who was an active math team member all four years of high school as well as an attendee for the 2008 math exchange trip to Hungary. Today, my day job is an engineering project manager for one of the largest transit agencies in the nation, Metro Transit, in Minneapolis. I decided to pursue engineering as a career in part to the exposure I got to interesting mathematics in high school from teachers like Doug O’Roark and PJ Karafiol as well as the many stories Doug would tell about his days working as an engineer for Mars Corporation. 

 

I opened my Etsy store, Cursoriam Creations, in 2017 as a way to continue with my jewelry and other hobbies in my free time. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I decided to convert my store to have all proceeds donated to a different partner each month. For the period November 1- December 2, 2020 all proceeds from sales will be donated to Math Circles of Chicago.

 

I am donating to Math Circles of Chicago because I am so impressed with the work they do and the number of students they are able to reach in Chicago. My memories of Math Team, Math Puzzles, and other experiences with Doug and PJ in high school are some of my fondest and I am so excited to see their organization continue to reach more and more students. They had such an impact on me and I want to give back to help them reach more young minds the same way they helped me.
